APUBCC Stories: A Journey with Solana Blockchain
Exploring Boundless Possibilities in the Solana Ecosystem
Introduction about APUBCC
APU Blockchain & Cryptocurrency Club (APUBCC) is a student-led blockchain club at Asia Pacific University (APU) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, established on 12 August 2021. Since the club started, the membership has grown significantly, now boasting more than 600 members.
Comprising enthusiastic students, APUBCC focuses on spreading awareness and knowledge about blockchain technology and cryptocurrency, especially dispelling the misconception that cryptocurrency is solely about trading and investments.
Beyond theory, APUBCC actively organizes and participates in various activities such as discussions, research projects, meetups, workshops, hackathons, and bootcamps. The goal is not just to improve understanding but also to encourage the practical use of blockchain and cryptocurrency concepts within the community.

APUBCC’s active involvement in the Solana Ecosystem
APUBCC Sparkathon 2023
APUBCC Sparkathon 2023 emerged as a highly successful Solana-focused hackathon in Malaysia, featuring diverse tracks in AI, De-Fi & Payments, and Mobile Consumers. The event achieved remarkable success through collaborative efforts with esteemed partners, including Superteam Malaysia, Superteam Vietnam, Jupiter, Monstre, and Gnosis, thereby contributing to its overall impact.
The substantial prize pool of approximately 10,000 USD added an exciting dimension to the competition, attracting widespread participation. Impressively, more than 200 students from various universities enthusiastically signed up for the Sparkathon. This inclusive environment led to the submission of around 30 innovative projects, showcasing the depth and breadth of talent engaged in the hackathon.
These statistics underscore the significance of APUBCC Sparkathon 2023 as a catalyst for fostering creativity, collaboration, and exploration within the Solana ecosystem.
Thanks to ETHKL, Monstre, and Jupiter for conducting workshops that enriched the experience of the hackathon participants. These sessions not only provided a comprehensive understanding of blockchain fundamentals but also offered hands-on opportunities to delve into the Solana Ecosystem and the development on the Solana blockchain. The collaborative efforts of these organizations significantly contributed to the participant’sof knowledge and practical skills, enhancing the overall impact and success of the hackathon.

Solana Hyperdrive Hackathon 2023
After the success of APUBCC Sparkathon, APUBCC keeps moving forward and encouraging the Sparkathon participants to continue their momentum by joining another significant hackathon hosted by Solana – Solana Hyperdrive.
A big shoutout to Henry and James from Superteam Malaysia for their active guidance in helping participants submit high-quality projects for Solana Hyperdrive. Their support has been instrumental in ensuring that our participants can showcase their skills and ideas effectively, contributing to the success and impact of the hackathon. Kudos to Henry and James for their valuable assistance!
Here's a fun fact: APUBCC proudly contributed over 50% of the projects submitted during Hyperdrive, showcasing APUBCC members’ enthusiasm and commitment to making a notable impact in the Solana ecosystem.
Future Plans for the Club with Solana
Beyond Horizons: APUBCC's Ambitious Trajectory with Solana
Web 3 Developer: Coding the unknown bootcamp by APUBCC
APUBCC is hosting a series of bootcamps as part of the Road to Devcon initiatives, with a focus on preparing local students for hackathons, especially Solana online hackathons like Colosseum Hack, and Ethereum-focused physical hackathons such as Devcon 2024 in Bangkok, Thailand. These bootcamps are strategically designed to bring together APUBCC members, particularly beginners, alongside students from other universities.
The primary objective is to expose participants to the development aspects of various blockchains, extending beyond just EVM and EVM-compatible chains. This exposure is facilitated through a series of workshops conducted by industry experts within the bootcamp.
The overarching goal of these bootcamps is to encourage students to explore Web3 Development. By providing a comprehensive learning experience, participants can gain valuable knowledge through these workshops, empowering them to embark on the creation of meaningful projects. The bootcamp serves as a stepping stone for students, fostering a dynamic environment where they can explore, learn, and apply their skills in the realm of blockchain technology. This sets the stage for their active involvement in Colosseum Hack, Devcon 2024, and beyond.

Solana Hackfest by APU Hackthletes
APU Hackthletes, another student-led community at Asia Pacific University in Malaysia, is dedicated to cultivating a "Hackathon Culture" among students. They are organizing a physical hackathon scheduled to take place from April 5th to April 7th, 2024. This event has garnered full support from us, APUBCC, and Superteam Malaysia, with a special focus on encouraging students to build on Solana.
The primary objective of this hackathon is to foster community building, providing an avenue for students to interact and expand their networks. Additionally, the event aims to educate participants about blockchain and cryptocurrency, offering beginner-level knowledge while enhancing their expertise in these fields, with a specific emphasis on building on Solana — the blockchain designed for mass adoption.
This collaborative effort among APU Hackthletes, APUBCC, and Superteam Malaysia seeks to create an inclusive and educational environment where students can actively engage with blockchain technology, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of the Solana ecosystem.
If you are a university student in Malaysia, please do not hesitate to sign up for this Solana Hackathon here.

We aspire to witness more students entering the blockchain space, and learning how to contribute, whether through development or non-development paths.
Yudhishthra Sugumaran, President of APUBCC
As APUBCC remains the first and largest blockchain club in Malaysia, we are hoping to see more support from Solana or even any other projects on Solana. This not only enhances the benefits for our club members but also fosters a healthy and thriving environment within the broader blockchain space. Your support contributes to the growth and vibrancy of our community. Thanks for reading.
